This July 30th marks 243 years since Congress unanimously passed the first U.S. whistleblower law. All Americans should celebrate this important moment in history – especially the federal government, as whistleblowers have played a critical role in preserving American democracy and the rule of law.
Every year since 2013, the Senate has unanimously recognized July 30th as National Whistleblower Appreciation Day and required each executive agency to recognize the day through educational efforts. However, many agencies have failed to comply.
We want to see this change: 2021 should be the year that every executive office and agency recognizes National Whistleblower Day and honors the courageous contributions of past whistleblowers. But we need your help.
So, please, join us today in calling for the leaders of the executive offices and agencies to implement educational programming around National Whistleblower Day. Widespread acknowledgement across the federal government of the importance of whistleblowers could change the culture of retaliation against whistleblowers that persists today.
