Electric grid whistleblowers are more important now than ever before. The U.S. electric grid faces an unprecedented number of cyberattacks that could threaten national security, and the combination of rising temperatures and poorly maintained infrastructure could spark wildfires. 

Electric grid workers with safety and security concerns currently rely on a patchwork of weak protections that cannot protect many employees from retaliation. In 2019, one of these frontline workers was fired after he reported wildfire safety concerns at PG&E.

To fix this, Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) introduced an amendment last year that would extend whistleblower protections to electric grid workers who report safety and security concerns regarding electric infrastructure and information. 

Whistleblowers are often the first line of defense against serious safety issues and security threats. To protect the electric grid, Congress must reintroduce this amendment and act to protect the workers who are essential to maintaining the grid. 

So, take action today: tell Congress to secure the electric grid by protecting electric grid workers.
