On July 30th, 1778, our Founding Fathers unanimously passed America's first whistleblower protection law. This visionary action, taken during the height of the American Revolution, stands today as a testament to the importance of whistleblowing in our history.
In the 243 years since this law was enacted, countless whistleblowers have bravely stepped forward to expose waste, fraud, and abuse – often at great personal cost.
These whistleblowers’ contributions – and sacrifices - should be remembered and celebrated. Now is the time to take action and urge both President Biden and Congress to permanently designate July 30th as National Whistleblower Day.
By requiring every department in the federal government to publicly acknowledge the importance of whistleblowers on July 30th, the President and Congress could take a key step towards a more transparent future.
