On January 8th 2017, the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) began functioning without a quorum. Five years later, it has no members, an ever-growing backlog of cases, and three well qualified nominees stranded in the Senate. In the meantime, federal employees do not have the protections and oversight they deserve.
Last October, the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs voted to advance President Biden’s three nominees for the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). Now, the nominees must be confirmed by the entire Senate.
The MSPB is in crisis: without a quorum for five years and without a single sitting member since early 2019, the backlog of whistleblower cases continues to grow. As of January 2021, the backlog was over 3,100 cases. Until these nominees are confirmed, this backlog continues to grow.
It's critical the Senate confirms these nominees and sends them to work immediately. So please, take action: urge the U.S Senate to confirm the nominees immediately.
The Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) is the primary avenue for federal employees to submit whistleblower complaints, and it is currently in crisis. The MSPB has not had a quorum in over five years and has not had a single sitting member since early 2019.
So please, take action: urge the U.S Senate to confirm the nominees immediately.
