On June 10, 2022, the IRS published an incredibly disappointing and outrageous Annual Report, outlining the major failure of the IRS whistleblower program.
Almost exactly a year prior, Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced the IRS Whistleblower Program Improvement Act of 2021, a bipartisan bill that would ensure the integrity of our nation’s tax system by holding tax cheats accountable through seven important reforms to the IRS whistleblower tax program.
Since the introduction of the IRS whistleblower program in 2006, over $6 billion dollars have been collected from wealthy individuals and companies that were not in compliance with tax laws.
By closing the current tax gap, the IRS whistleblower program can bring in billions more and help the IRS stop large scale tax fraud and protect whistleblowers who report these frauds.
Whistleblowers have played a crucial role in the effort to protect our nation’s tax system, but it’s time to close the remaining gap. So, please, write to your Senators and urge them to support the Whistleblower Program Improvement Act of 2021 today.
